The incident took place on Tuesday when around 8 to 10 Shiv Sainiks attacked BJP corporator Pradeep Ramchandani in broad daylight. They pinned him on the road and poured black ink on his face and clothes before fleeing the site.
A video of the incident has now gone viral on the internet, wherein the assaulters can be seen walking away with Shiv Sena mufflers around their neck.
Ramchandani was rushed to the hospital where he was treated and allowed to go home. Likening the Uddhav Thackeray-led government with Taliban, the BJP leader claimed that the attack on him was ordered by local Sena leader Rajendra Choudhary.
When contacted, Choudhary stated that the attack was a lesson for Ramchandani for badmouthing Sena on social media.
“There are a lot of other BJP leaders, but they do not spread negative things about Sena on social media like Ramchandani does. This lesson for Ramchandani was long overdue and we Shiv Sainiks have had enough now,” he said.
He added that if BJP leaders continue their remarks on the party, then Sena will reply “in their own style” and that the attack on Ramchandani was just a “prasad” (reward) for his actions.
Clashes erupted across Mumbai on Tuesday after Rane said that he would have “slapped Uddhav Thackeray” for allegedly not remembering the year of India’s independence.
Rane was arrested in the evening for his “derogatory remark” but was later granted bail by a magistrate court.
