ULHASNAGAR: The Ulhasnagar property tax holders will get some relaxation in payment of property tax as the Urban development minister Eknath Shinde gave approval for Abhay Yojana scheme for a month.
Under the scheme, the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation will provide a rebate of up to 100% on the penalty amount of arrears of property tax.
Property tax is one of the major sources of revenue for the corporation. The scheme will also help UMC to get revenue as civic body facing shortage of funds because this year due to non-collection of property tax civic body presently unable to pay even salaries of some of the staffs.
The decision to implement Abhay Yojana was taken on Monday after Mayor Leelabai Ashan and her son Arun Ashan with some other corporators met with Eknath Shinde in Mantralay.
Mayor Leelabai Ashan told TOI,” The scheme will help property tax holders as they will get discount up to 100% on their penalty amount and it will also help civic body to increase the revenue of civic body which is facing shortage of funds.”
Earlier, various political parties and traders association in the city had demanded UMC to start Abhay Yojana scheme for property tax holders in the city because many people who are facing shortage of funds due to Corona pandemic this year are unable to pay their property taxes.
Ex-deputy mayor Jeevan Idnani has appealed to citizens to take advantage of this opportunity by paying property tax during the scheme period.
