MUMBAI: Mumbai Police registered two FIRs against Marathi actor Ketki Chitale on Saturday for sharing a defamatory post online against NCP supremo Sharad Pawar.
The cases were registered at Goregaon and Bhoiwada police station. The complainants in both cases are lawyers.
“In the Bhoiwada case, NCP student wing leader and advocate Prashant Duete, pressed charges. The FIR has been registered against two individuals under IPC sections 153A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 500 (Punishment for defamation), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation). The other accused is health science student Nikhil Bhamre,” said a police officer.
Goregaon police said they would make a decision about arresting the actor only after taking legal advice.
The actor is currently in the custody of Thane police. There are media reports of complaints being filed against her at Dhule and Akola as well.
