On Thursday Raut had said that a few regional parties want a non-Congress leader to head the UPA and hinted at NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s name. Reacting to it, Patole said that Sena is not a member of UPA and should not comment on it. State Congress president also said that he raised the issue before Shiv Sena president and chief minister Uddhav Thackeray saying that whether Raut is Pawar’s spokesperson.
On Friday, speaking to the media in New Delhi Raut said, “One need not be a part of UPA to speak on the issue. It is a national issue and I am speaking as I am concerned about UPA. District or Taluka level leaders should not comment on national issues without understanding it.”
He further said that some people in Delhi are preparing to form UPA-II, which may reduce the importance of the existing UPA. “I feel UPA should be more strengthened in the interest of the nation and Congress should be part of it as UPA is zero without Congress. So, it should be strengthened if the opposition is to defeat BJP,” said Sena leader.
He added that Congress leaders from Maharashtra (Patole) are Sena’s subordinate in the state and should understand the issue in view of the national perspective and national issues be discussed in Delhi as it is not the state subject. “They should also think about it, they do not want UPA to be strengthened?” questioned Sena MP.
Congress leaders comment whether Raut is a spokesperson of Pawar, “It may be. Sharad Pawar is a leader of the country. Everyone knows what Pawar or Uddhav Thackeray are.”
