ULHASNAGAR: The police probing a fight between NCP and RPI workers inside Kalani bungalow have arrested NCP’s Ulhasnagar city spokesperson Kamlesh Nikam from Kalyan.
Nikam is a close associate of Ulhasnagar’s strongman Pappu Kalani family.
With the arrest of the main accused Nikam, the number of arrests reaches three in the assault case.
Earlier police had arrested two NCP workers – Vishal Hajare and Vijay Yadav alias Montu in the case.
Nikam on Wednesday was produced before Ulhasnagar court that sent to two-day police custody.
The fight took place late at night on November 25 last month after a dispute on a WhatsApp group between former deputy mayor and RPI leader Bhagwan Bhalerao and NCP’s Ulhasnagar’s spokesperson Nikam.
During the argument, Nikam made some personal comments against Bhalerao’s wife following which Bhalerao’s relative Akash Sonawane along with his associates barged into Kalani bungalow and assaulted Nikam.
After this, Nikam and other NCP workers also assaulted Sonawane and his associates badly who later was rescued by police and hospitalised due to serious injuries.
After the incident, police had filed a cross-complaint against both parties and arrested three from NCP including Nikam.
However, Sonawane, who got discharged from the hospital, is yet to be arrested in the case.
