Mumbai city continues to witness a huge spike in new COVID-19 cases, with 2000 people testing positive on Sunday. The addition of 1,962 cases has taken the overall tally to 34,39,47. Whereas, with seven more deaths, the death toll has increased to 11,531. 1,259 people also recovered from the virus, taking the recoveries to 3,17,579. Maharashtra recorded this year’s highest one-day spike of 16,620 new COVID-19 cases. In view of rising cases, the local administrations have started imposing curbs. While a week-long lockdown begins in Nagpur today, Latur district administration has imposed a night curfew between 8 pm and 5 am to contain the spread of the virus in the district. In another development, Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Chandrakant Patil on Sunday held Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray responsible for the entire Sachin Vaze episode. The Mumbai cop has been sent to NIA custody till March 25.
