In a relief to the 84-year-old K Rustom & Co, a well-known ice cream parlour at Churchgate, the small causes court appeal bench took the heat off an eviction order, for now, by confirming an interim stay on an order directing it to vacate the premises which form part of Brabourne Stadium and hand over vacant possession to its landlord, Cricket Club of India (CCI), at Marine Drive. The order of February 18, released on Friday, confirmed interim stay granted last year, initially on a stopgap condition, that Rustom deposit Rs 2. 5 lakh monthly compensation from date of decree till possession dispute is decided.
