In view of rising COVID-19 cases in the state, the Maharashtra government has implemented ‘strict restrictions’ and those who violate the norms would be punished with the concerned establishments ordered to shut down till the pandemic remains in force as per the Centre’s rules. Meanwhile, cases continue to surge across the state. Maharashtra reported 15,051 new cases, taking the state’s caseload to 23,29,464, while 48 fatalities took the death toll to 52,909. Mumbai city reported 1,713 new cases of infection. Eight deaths were reported in the Mumbai division including four in Mumbai city. In another development, cop Sachin Vaze has been suspended from the service. Whereas, state NCP chief Jayant Patil has ruled out the possibility of Maharashtra Home Minister and party leader Anil Deshmukh losing his job amid the controversy.
