KALYAN: Panic gripped busy Chinchpada area of Kalyan city in Thane district of Maharashtra after a sudden appearance of leopard on Thursday morning.
Learning about the presence of a leopard, a team from forest department has rushed to the spot.
Meanwhile, local police officials are engaged in controlling the crowed which has gathered to catch a glimpse of a leopard.
Forest department suspects that leopard might have come from Haji Malang forest
This is for the first time leopard was seen in the busy area of the city.
The wild animal was first spotted by locals in Hanuman Nagar. Later, residents of Pragya apartment, Sai Dham society, Ganesh Udyan and surrounding spotted the leopard roaming on street.
Later, he ran away and was seen on Chinchpada Road.
Rajesh Channe forest officer said the leopard may have come here from the dense forests of haji malang forest area and forest staff are on the hunt to catch it.
The leopard is currently hiding in Shriram Anugrah tower where forest team have cordoned off the area and police team has also been deployed.
