MUMBAI: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, adjoining Thane and Palghar district predicting heavy rains on Sunday and Monday and extremely heavy rains at isolated places on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) of Mumbai said that the city and adjoining areas are likely to receive moderate to intense rain in suburbs over the next few hours on Saturday.
The RMC Mumbai stated that moderate to intense spells of rain are very likely in districts of Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, and ghat areas of Pune and Satara.
It further added that thunderstorms continuing over parts of interior Maharashtra.
“Moderate to intense spells of rain accompanied with thunder/lightning very likely to continue over Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli, Latur, Nanded, Aurangabad and Osmanabad during next 3-4 hours,” said RMC Mumbai.
Head of SID at the Climate Research and Services Pune, K. S. Hosalikar, said that the latest satellite image indicates almost the entire west coast covered with dense clouds, more towards South Konkan and below.
“Please see IMD warnings for coming days for Maharashtra. Monsson is expected to be very active,” Hosalikar said.
