The deceased woman has been identified as Supriya Shinde. She was residing with her husband Kishor and son at Om Residency building located in Davdi area in Dombivli (East).
The police said the incident took place on Tuesday when the woman was alone inside the home while her husband had gone to work and her son to school.
Police suspect an unknown person killed the woman after strangulating her to death and later packed her body inside the sofa before fleeing.
Upon returning home in the evening, Kishor did not find her wife at home. Later, he started inquiry with locals and when did not find his wife, he finally approached the local Manpada police to file a complaint.
The police officials said that when Kishor approached the police, the relatives and neighbours who had come to the house, found the sofa scattered. However, when they checked, they found Supriya’s body inside it.
Learning about the incident, senior police officials rushed to the spot and began probing the case.
Police have sent the body for post mortem to find the exact cause of death.
Shekhar Bagade, senior police inspector of Manpada police station said, “We are probing the case from all angles and have brought some suspects for questioning and hope to crack case very soon.”
