MUMBAI: The Central Railway organised a unique sound and light show – ‘Navarasangam – ek gatha CSMT ki’ on Sunday to observe Railways entering into its 170th year. The first train in Asia (and India) ran between Mumbai and Thane on Saturday, April 16, 1853.
The show was organised at the CSMT heritage building, a UNESCO heritage site. The 134-year-old Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus has now been lit up with around 1100 lights. Out of these 1100, the brightness of over 450 lights has decreased due to aging. All these 450 lights have been replaced with new technology LED lights, said CR chief spokesperson Shivaji Sutar.
“The show depicted CSMT history through the various emotions of the nine Rasas of Natyashastra,” he said. The programme was presented through dance, drama, music, poetry and vocal renditions bringing out the different emotions based on various historical episodes of the history of CSMT building, Railways and the country.
CR general manager Anil Kumar Lahoti said that CSMT was a pride of Indian Railways and the entire railway fraternity. “To celebrate the heritage and architecture of this building, we staged this unique light and sound cum performance show on the background of this building.”
